Live Simmons

2008-05-05 by ken_evans_99

Hiya,

My band played a show last night opening for John Foxx (original
Ultravox guy). Our drummer used my red SDS9 pads, with a kick coming
from my SDS8 brain, acoustic snare/ hats/ cymbals/ ride and the other 4
Simmons pads triggering various samples (including, errrm, sampled
Simmons toms). It looked great, performed flawlessly and that kick was
monstrous....got a lot of favourable comment. Just wanted to share, it
was my kit's first live outing!

Cheers,
Ken Evans

The Foxx gig was awesome! It was John Foxx with Louis Gordon, and
it's easily the most powerful live fully electronic show I've ever
seen. *Highly* recommended if you get the chance, even if you know
none of the songs! We also got a full screening of the film +
soundtrack "Tiny Colour Movies" which was totally engrossing, but
very few drums :-)

Having been an Ultravox fan (Foxx era and Midge Ure era) I'm now also
a John Foxx fan.

Cheers,
Ken.

Simmons Videos and Suitcase Kit

2008-05-06 by Darren Craven

Hey Everyone

Just came across this clip on YouTube of New Order playing Blue Monday
and noticed something familiar.

I've never actually seen anyone playing a suitcase kit before??

Cheers

We actually have this video of Thomas Dolby in the database with a
custom designed SDS-V suitcase.
It was taken out of the case, the foam removed and equipped with tube
lights underneath each pad, that light up according to which pad is
hit. as if wasn't strange enough, the pads were triggered with toy
mallets it seems.
But most importantly it still sounds great.

Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_1au_N_Hfc

this is an unambiguous nod towards those guys considering to build
their own suitcase kits ;)

Cool, I hope to catch a gig someday. I have most of the new albums too
so I would feel at home...
