Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

Hi folks,

just joined this group as i have come across a SDS III and might be
looking to sell it. Believe it or not someone GAVE me this synth many
years ago when i was younger when i didn't really know what i had in
my hands TBH so it lived in my loft for about 15 years. I had
forgotten all about it over the years and discovered it again a few
months ago.

Its got the Musicaid logo on the back and is in ok nick, a few
scratches and one nob missing along with two of the little gray
plastic screw covers off the top of two other nobs. It is fully
working apart from that.

NOW i know what a truly great/classic piece of gear this is and the
sheer lack off information out there on the web on them shows how
little of them are around that are still working. The number of
people trying to clone them suggests this too. I've looked all over
the net and have yet to find one for sale or that has been sold
recently. The closest i have come to finding a potential price was
one guy in Europe who was prepared to pay 800 to 1000 euros for one?!?

Really i have no idea so im putting this out there to see what the
situation is before i decide whether to sell or not.

Good news too, but be prepared... it'll start to break down just about
now. 30-35 years seems to be the life span of many of the internal IC's.
Not that they're that rare, but it's good to know. I've fixed up two
SDS-4's and have a broken SDS-3 I'm about to dig into...

Might have been me. ;) Thanks to this list I'm now a owner and maybe
you'll find another buyer here. If not, I bet Ebay will prove that the
interest is great in this wicked machine!

Just for info ,
I paid mine 3 years ago, 150� in pretty good shape with 2 pads...
O, it's quite rare but personnaly I wouldn't pay as much for it as I
think a few old analog synths can do the job... & much more ...
but I'm just a drummer...

:D Sounds very decent indeed...

The thing is that almost all the old analogue synths are expensive like
hell too these days. To get the punch in a bass drum like the one the
3/4 is capable of we're talking synths like SCI Pro-One and a few more
with envelopes fast enough. The SDS-3 have four of these channels, the
Pro-One "just" one. Sure, not a fair comparison, but to compare prices -
the Pro-One often cost in the region of 700 euros these days...

And - the SDS-3/4 is so great looking too. :D
