SDSV Opinions

SDSV Opinions

2008-03-07 by synthdrummer

Hello again gang, hope you don't mind but I need another opinion ... a
guy in Texas has an sdsv brain without pads that he will sell ... he
sent me photos and aside from a few dings here and there it looks good
and he tells me that all leds light up but he has no way of testing it
... what's a fair price for this in your opinion?

Thanks

To be honest, nobody can answer a question like that and asked in that way serious. If there is a hihat and a cymbal in it, it is worth ten times more than the standart bass-snare-tom-tom-tom set. Things like that have to be checked intensively, if you don't want to look at them only, but play them. These are old ladies, man, and they should open their mouthes first before you buy them.
Good luck
Michael

a hillbillie with an SDSV unit? .... most unlikely!! ;=) people who sounds like retards (as they do in Texas) should give thier SDSV's away for free and keep on lick thier Bush-admin's asses more so they can keep on sound like retards.

hillbillie: is a product of a pitcher of free Nadi light and two cousins going at it in the men's bathroom.

cheers.....

It is the standard bass-snare-tom-tom-tom setup, nothing more, nothing less

one in europe just recently sold for over $700

http://cgi.ebay.com/Simmons-SDS-V-SDS-5-im-Sonderlook-analog_W0QQitemZ140210312655QQihZ004QQcategoryZ46611QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I can't translate German so I'm not sure how many modules it had but from the photos it looks standard no?

I got no idea what you yanks are talking about, we all live on the same planet.
(But who gives a f*&^, what I think off that)

I agree with Michael. If you buy, be prepared. It may take considerable time,
frustration and money before it works. Perhaps you can fix things yourself

I remember an old country song: If you're goin' to play in texas, you gotta
have a FIDDLE in your band. This SDS V is hot, but not for Louisiana men
;-). May be you can trade the SDSV for a fiddle :-).

Even though I agree with the whole Bush-bashing I'd just like to mention
that I'm not sure all do and this isn't a list about politics (except
maybe old vs. new gear then) so take care KW...

Correct, it's just the costum angle thingy that isn't standard. I was
amazed at that final price too. 486 in _my world_ is approx 100 too
much. I'd say 4-500 USD for a good 5-card standard unit in the States.

Hi, guys. I have a standard five-module SDSV in excellent technical shape
(it's just missing a few knobs, but functions perfectly) available for
purchase. The price is $500.00. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area. E-mail me
off-list for photos and sound samples.

Peace and love,

Simmons MTX-9

2008-03-19 by Zahir Manek

Hello,

Can you only play 3 sounds per kit from this unit over midi? ie.. for each kit you can only assign three sounds to all the keys on a midi keyboard? seems wrong, i can understand only playing 3 sounds at once, but i've only been able to produce a kit with three sounds total.

any help is appreciated.

thanks

That's what this unit was done for ...
I guess it's not the more brilliant Simmons gear...
Maybe the most useless one...

& keep in mind that it was basically an add on for the SDS9 drumkit,
& dedicated to be played in live with pads, not necessary to be used
with a today's computer.

therefore personnaly, I like to use it to add metal attacks on analog
toms (a sort of "Rush like" use),
otherwise I would give it... as I don't like the sounds at all ...

hope that helps...
Patrice.

thanks. that really sucks though, all those sounds in there but they can't be used together to make one good kit. the things is midi, shouldn't have taken that much more programming to have them all midi mapped on the same midi channel.

As I understand you;
Yes, the MTX-9 is an expander indended and not as a sound generator of
it's own but rather as an add-on to SDS-1000 and similar. That's why
it's called a latin drum expander.

That was my first Simmons and I _hated_ it for all those horrible latin
drum patches...
