Opinions on SDS7 ebay kit

Hello gang:

would appreciate any opinions on above sds7 kit currently up for
auction - the seller sent me a few more additional photos, all pads
are yellow with rubber playing surface, brain is functioning
perfectly, set-up is a rack system (which I don't prefer but it is
what it is)all cables are included, everything is available here as
far as a vintage Simmons kit is concerned. Seller bought the kit brand
new back in 1987 and hardly played it; the kit is in pristine
condition. This is his second attempt at selling it - I didn't bother
sharing this with the group earlier because I figured someone would
buy it, despite the high price tag.

Any thoughts?

Regards,
Synthdrummer

Another drawback is the fact that this entire kit would be shipped
from Switzerland to the USA - a dicey proposition, eh?

Apart from the price which I find horrific despite the condition I have
only a problem with the shipping. Since you're in the US it may not
matter, but most europeans won't bid 'cause Switzerland isn't a member
of the EU and hence we would have to pay customs/VAT on such an import.

But really, 2000 USD for a kit with just 5 cards? Am I being too
bargain-oriented or isn't that more or less a joke? 1000 seems fair
enough for such a kit.

Well, definetly a collectors item. But I would never use ANY SDS7 in a professional
environment. To faulty. Even if this kit has never been used, it is more than 20 years old
and after this period of time "pristine condition" is superficially. Even if it's 3 days old, the
whole construction is weird and unreliable.
And the price, well, it's always worth what a neird is willing to pay. It's a collector price and
painful but somehow ok

The first thing to check is the condition of the RAM board with the batteries, may be the seller can make a picture (if you see some green sauce, forget it...). After more than 20 years i don't think the batteries are ok. If the RAM or CPU board are moving only slightly while being transported, it will result in malfunction due to shortcut. Good luck

about $ 2000 ????

Are you serious about that ?
For an SDS7 ? the worst kit ever built by Simmons in term of
reliability & maintenance ????
Just for a 5 piece kit ...
When you think of all the chances that this module would finish broken
down ...

it's not honest at all from the seller ...

My only thoughts about it really ...

I'd like to meet him :- ))))

Hello:

The first thing you would want to consider, and may already have, is
the unit is probably not 110 volts, and you would need to do
something about that to use it.

Also from the single photo, the pad shown looks like an SDS9 snare
pad. This would be a dual trigger pad, with a 1/4" plug. I might be
mistaken on this, as maybe Simmons later sold this type of pad with
the SDS7, and hopefully some more knowledgeable than me will weigh in
on this.

The price of over $2000.00 US is pretty high. I paid under $350.00
each for both my SDS7s.

I hope this is helpful to you.

John

I appreciate your comments & feedback gang regarding the ebay sds7 kit ... I figured as much. Due to financial constraints about a year ago I sold all of my Simmons gear, much to my regret. Now I am financially solvent again and really miss having and playing on a Simmons. My ideal kit is an sdsv but they are really hard to find ... but based on the advice given here at this forum from friends who I trust I will try and be patient and wait until the right kit comes along. Thanks again.
Best,
Synthdrummer
