Eproms?

Eproms?

2007-11-14 by crew38special

Hi All,
I found a eprom that is a 27128A. I know that the 2764 is used
for the bass and snare drums and the 27128 is for toms.
What does the (A) mean on the Eprom that I found and can it be
used in the SDS EPB unit to be used in my SDS7 brain.
If someone can help me out with this that would be sweet.
                                              Haley

The letter usually refer to the voltage used... I don't know them by
heart but I bet Wolfgang or someone else in here does. Worst thing that
can happen is that you destroy the prom or that it won't work. You
cannot damage the Simmons stuff with it.

Wolfgang (that's me) only knows that "A" is the sixth letter in his
name, so I would like to forward this question to Michael...

OK then, but then I can repeat my favourite "snatch". Old (and I mean
old) printers often have the typefaces and programs burnt on eproms.
Sometimes erasable and sometimes not, but they sure sounds wicked indeed
when put in a SDS-1 like I've done with many. :)

Harvest old electronic equipment is a good source. Otherwise there are
new for sale at electronics stores, but they're not very cheap... just
like back then.

But do change the battery first if it behaves weird!

Hi phoof
SOme tips??

-Try a good electronic store in hometown, perhaps there works some kinda
nerd. Those guys know ecxatly the replacement parts.
-try on an secondhand bookstore to find some kind of electronic book about
proms and replacement, sometimes you can find alternatives who still exsist
-Those megastockholders in China (f.i. HK Inventory Co)do have a lot of components
on the shelve. Some of them have there complete stock on the het. If you
find 1, tell them you want a sample. Did that with a converter for my asr-X.
Got it for free

Good luck Man, when are you guys coming to rock in holland

Hello, if you don't get copies in your country, email to me: michael.buchner@... and you can get prices and sounds available. Of course, the original SDS9 proms are available.
By the way: Are you sure your proms are dead?

Exchanging a battery in a 20 year old electronic music machine is no
problem, it's a necessity. Check the manual, if you don't have one I bet
there is on at simmons.synth.net or at simmonsmuseum.de

I haven't exchanged one myself since I have no SDS-, but it's
semi-messy. Sometimes they're soldered in place and sometimes the type
used can be hard to track down...

Hi phoof

Sounds like a thermo problem
get yourself a can of coldspray, when the problem occurs you can freeze-out
each component one by one

good luck

It doesn't actually matter about the type very much. About the only
time it does matter is if you've got a NiCad battery, which kind of
needs to be replaced with another NiCad or a suitable NiMH - my
Polysix has a NiMH that's a drop-in replacement.

My SDS7 had a lithium battery, which has now been replaced with two
alkaline AA batteries in series. I did the same thing with my Ensoniq
ESQ-1, and also with a couple of Sun workstations that had flat clock
batteries. Oh, and some Mac PRAM batteries...

Re: [Simmons Drums] Re: Eproms?

would that explain why the proms would not sound? and only the osscilators work?
seems to be that. but, if they are dead, then its a more serious problem...

its times likr this when i wonder why i bother instead of just getting "the sample bank"

heh.
