Hello all, Just out of interest, does anyone own any Simmons kit that has some history ? Maybe originally owned by someone famous ? To start off, of my 3 SDX's, one was Brian Bennett's (The Shadows) and another was Howard Jones'. Anyone else ??? Phil.

mine (#019) was the presentation kit when the SDX was first exhibited in 1988, originally owned by Sibi Siebert who was responsible for distribution in Europe. So likely the first publicly presented SDX. If you call that history? I am glad that most of my gear has not been owned by famous people but by those who payed good money and took care about it. --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "Phil Murray" <philmurr@...> wrote:

I'm still trying to work out who wrote his autograph on the underside of my SDS-7. But after that it was owned by the Ultravox (90's) drummer Tony Holmes. I have some history on other pieces of gear, but Simmons-wise it's mostly smaller bands... BUT... My most famous machine otherwise is my MiniMoog which was owned by Wojciech Ernest and with ABBA on the famous Australian tour and also appears on a few albums. :) electronically yours, jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - www.electronic-obsession.se www.myspace.com/machinepop

I own a SDX that belonged to the Accept drummer. As I don't have anything in common with this group, I don't know much about him. It's sprayed on the heavy flightcase that came with it and is fully equipped (the SDX). Best tph

I purchased a set of SDSVs on eBay from a music store in Massachusetts, and the seller said the set once belonged to Jon "Sib" Hashian, drummer for Boston. I haven't tried to verify this, however. --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "Phil Murray" <philmurr@...> wrote: > > Hello all, > > Just out of interest, does anyone own any Simmons kit that has some > history ? Hi everyone, famous owner you say ? what do I have in stock ; ah yes, my SDS7(11 voices) / MTM / ADT came from Gilson Lavis from Jools Holland, famous kits , but in storage for a long time & have been probably quite a lot on the road...& looks well like it did... my SDSIV is coming from Wolf Studio London. I could add my SDX coming from ... ........Dave ... ; - ) the most famous guy here no ? It was an ex demo unit . & it had an history , it came back twice to soundunit before working perfectly (or nearly). Anyway ... Patrice. Inside Simmons List deals are cool. My SDS-III pads have the logo of the band "Prism" on them. Modded to match the look of the SDS-V's with plexi surface etc. I'm still unsure if I like it or if I'll eventually turn them back to their original self again. But Tom, you never told me if they appeared on any releases... :) -- electronically yours, jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - www.electronic-obsession.se www.myspace.com/machinepop - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- -

OK, I have a couple. I've been playing with Australia's Pseudo Echo on and off for the past 7 years, I've used my red SDS8 and SDS9 pads mostly and as far as sounds go have used and SDS8 for the toms and an Alesis D4 for kick and snare. The band actually own a set of black SDS8 pads BUT they're in real bad shape so I get the crew to take mine. In the past few months I've used SDS9 pads (With a couple of Vs) and a Yamaha DXTREME IIs so I've been able to sample all of the REAL Simmons sounds. Also, Danny Simcic from Real Life (Send me an Angel) is a mate of mine, he went over seas a few years back and stored a lot of stuff in my garage which included the actual SDSV pads as in the "Send me an Angel" video clip. He still has them these days but has since painted them white, he uses them in his stuodio to lay down tracks. Cheers, Matt. --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, brian walker <brian1075us@...> wrote: > > Hi > > I have Tommy Steel's SDS3 in its original road case > with tour details all over it > > Brian > > > > --- Ralph <ralphdsmith@...> wrote: > > > I purchased a set of SDSVs on eBay from a music > > store in > > Massachusetts, and the seller said the set once > > belonged to Jon "Sib" > > Hashian, drummer for Boston. I just bought yet another set of SDS9 pads off Ebay (That makes a total of 13 kits now!), as it turns out they were Paul Wheeler's who was/is the drummer from Icehouse. This exact kit was in a lot of their video clips plus in the video "Icehouse Live at the Ritz in NY" back in 86 when it was brand new! The pads are in pretty good condition considering the ammount of touring they've done, got them nice and cheap too, only AU$171.00 which included shipping from Brisbane. He also threw in a Pearl DRX- 1 pad and a "Spike" trigger, great deal! --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "Matt" <sds5@...> wrote: > > OK, I have a couple. > > I've been playing with Australia's Pseudo Echo on and off for the > past 7 years, I've used my red SDS8 and SDS9 pads mostly and as far > as sounds go have used and SDS8 for the toms and an Alesis D4 for > kick and snare. > > The band actually own a set of black SDS8 pads BUT they're in real > bad shape so I get the crew to take mine. > > In the past few months I've used SDS9 pads (With a couple of Vs) and > a Yamaha DXTREME IIs so I've been able to sample all of the REAL > Simmons sounds. > > Also, Danny Simcic from Real Life (Send me an Angel) is a mate of > mine, he went over seas a few years back and stored a lot of stuff > in my garage which included the actual SDSV pads as in the "Send me > an Angel" video clip. I've just done some further inspection of the kit, on the kick pad you can quite clearly see where vinyl letters saying "ICEHOUSE" have left their mark after being peeled off.....anyway, back to work now.....just a bit of trivia for you! --- In Simmons_Drums@yahoogroups.com, "Matt" <sds5@...> wrote: > > I just bought yet another set of SDS9 pads off Ebay (That makes a > total of 13 kits now!), as it turns out they were Paul Wheeler's who > was/is the drummer from Icehouse. My 12 module SDS7 system was reputedly owned by John Parr of 'St Elmos Fire' fame. I have the original box, only 4 original tom pads although I have added 4 later Simmons toms and a Kick pad plus 3 Ultimate Drum toms and a Kick pad. I stripped the brain, replaced the CMOS battery and cleaned, lubed and deoxit'd the sockets. I found that once I had installed a new battery the old settings 'magically' reappeared which was strange but pleasing. Currently desk-less so haven't auditioned the system for a long time but will be using it with a recently acquired 110v SDS6 once the US tranformer I've ordered actually arrives from the UK supplier.
