You're welcome... I was using a simpler digicam, but I think it did the unit
justice at least. I had forgotten about the service note. =)

The headphone amp appears to be an Elektor (magazine) board
from 1983. Does that tie in with the age of the SDS2?

Here is a mystery to be solved. It looks like the SDS-2 I have is of later
date and maybe not of Simmons origin after all, but all other stuff
corresponds to the description so it gets me thinking that the original
electronic design might have faltered and was replaced. The case sure looks
"home brew" with bent edges and the front sure is letraset just as described
in the book. It seems stupid indeed that someone in the mid-80's would've
made a fake SDS-2. Why is the question. Back then Simmons was very much in
business doing top of the line digital stuff and why fake a crappy old
analogue then?

The mist thickens... I know a guy on this list sometimes talks to Dave. It
would be nice to get feedback on this...

BTW, I received a reply from Bob Henrit, seems like a very friendly guy.
Anything special you want me to ask. He mentioned he still has a lot of
manuals around...

Why would somebody copy a Picasso after the camera has already be
invented?

Have you looked at the bottom side of the voice boards?
It's common to etch a make or model number along with
the copper tracks.

Also, if you cad take a better pic of the top of the board,
I may be able to read date codes off the ICs. Then at least
you'll know if the whole thing is from 1983. There's always
a chance that a better headphone amp died and got replaced
later...

More or less all of them are 85-87 except on the PSU board where there are
79-circuitry.

Re: [Simmons Drums] sds-3/4 service and owners manuals??

2007-09-23 by randaleem

Hi Jesper,

How about asking if he has an SDS3 and/or SDS4 manual and service
manual? We've got schematics and service notes for these; but no
complete manuals that I'm aware of?

Thank you,

Randal

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
