Quite keen to get that. Does anyone have any technical info on what was
inside the SDX, or what software it ran?

Planning to bid on that later. If I don't get it, will whoever does
scan it in and post it somewhere ? I'll do the same if I win it!

I've got the SDX circuit diagrams somewhere that I'm planning to scan
one rainy day...guess that'll be about now then going on the current
English weather :o)

Er, let "Wolfklang" get it easy and spread it via "simmonsmuseum.com".
B.t.w.: Anybody interested in getting ZI Pads repaired...

Yes! I looked in this many years ago and contacted Interlink
Electronics (producer of FSR's). At the time they stated that the pad
surfaces could not be made due to the oem contract. This might be
worth investigating again. Any ideas on how to repair ZI pads??

Re: [Simmons Drums] Digest Number 956

2007-07-27 by michael.buchner@debitel.net

I had to repair an SDX some weeks ago and examined these ZI Pads. There are 2 typical faults: First the metal of the printed coil may oxidize away due to age and humidity. Second: The black plastic cover is damaged and shortcuts. To repair the first fault I make experiments with a "silver conductance paint", sorry for bad english. This is also useful to repair the SDS7's selector pad.
The black (carbon??) plastic is not difficult to replace, I made some experiments with only paper blackened by a pencil. And something to create space between the coil and the paper like small pieces of self adhesive foil. The whole thing, proudly labelled as "FSR" is something like the PCB and buttons of a remote control. The coil has a resistance overall of 15kohms. Now: It must be possible to replace the whole coil by a new etched PCB, may be gold plated (this is not really expensive).
Sometimes it is necessary to connect a wire to the ZI coil. But it is not possible to solder it, because the coil is printed on clear plastic foil. But: If you shoot a coppered staple into the wood near the connection, you can solder the wire to this staple nice and firmly. Then you can paint a connection from the foil to the staple with the "silver conductance paint".
I'm looking forward to repair some ZI Pads, the owner wants to send them to my place soon. So I will talk to you later if I find out more!
Michael

Well, in my case I'm fortunate enough for the moment to have them all in
very good conditions , but for how long ?
Therefore, you can contact me here ; jacquot.patrice@...
& let's speak about all that.

But i'm sure all users are not in that case...

it's good to know that there is some hope again for this wonderful
dynausaurus...

speak soon,
Patrice.
mmmh I don't share your opinion about the sounds & storing in an AKAI ...
Personnally I never had been convinced by AKAI...in term of sound...
The future now comes from DFH or whatever software...
But the SDX is shining by its grain & sound quality & of course the
original library , there is no soft at the moment that can give you this ...
We 'll have in the future to find a way to use these audio converters &
filters again ...
but yeah storage & editing can be done by any good computer system with a
nice green screen ... ; - )
