I know this is a long shot but are there any other users of the Cheetah MD16 drum machine on this user group? I am having major midi problems with mine. I've replaced the leaking battery but midi still doesn't work. Also, bought another second hand unit but getting the same problem with this unit also!! Would anyone have any tips? Thanks Andy

Hi Berk / All Thanks for the interest. The midi leads I am using are fine, this is not the problem. I used to use the Cheetah as a Pad input to MIDI interface (using Simmons pads). Also, have a Kenton-Midi'ed SDS7 but it is midi-out only so you can appreciate the usefulness of the Cheetah! However, my gear has been in storage for years and during this time the internal battery has leaked across the main PCB in the Cheetah. I have replaced the battery and repaired some of the obviously broken pcb track. Also, checked many pcb connections and all seem ok now. However, some acid has leaked on the components. I was wondering if anyone else out there had also gone through this trouble and worked out which components most likely need changing before I attempt to start changing some likely suspects. *aouch! battery acid* Well, since everything seems OK except midi I guess you need to focus on that area. But to be honest and if you're not into soldering as a hobby I'd check for a new cheetah on Ebay and use the other for reserve etc. It's not really the most expensive piece of gear... Midi signals can be hard to trace since they're digital. It's not as obvious as an all-analogue system. But that's my two swedish ren, I'm no tech wiz so others might feel different. electronically yours, jesper - -- --- ---- ----- ---- --- -- - www.electronic-obsession.se Order your own copy of the Machinepop/Imiafan split-EP at www.electronic-obsession.se/label.asp "Varfr har du s mnga pianon?" Indeed oeps that sucks I guess Jesper is right, try to find another one ( but you did allready) so try to find another one. If it's ann all digital piece, you need the scematic's and a lot of understanding off the gear your dealing with. A analogue piece can be fixed without manuals/schematics if you have enough experience, digital won't do. And since there's acid spoiled, it could be anything. Perhaps a few capacitors just a little bit broken ( but on board not measurable) but all together they give a problem, who knows?(at least I don't) Since I'm not into this type off machine: it's mainly a trigger to midi interface, right?? I mean check out a pm16 or akai me35 or what do you have. Or is there a special reason why you want the cheetah in particular Berk! ________________________________________________________________________________________ 12move ADSL: Voordelig, snel en onbeperkt internet.
