Matt,
I think they are stapled shut. Pry back the overlapping rubber of the
head surface w/ your thumb. This will expose a staple that is holding the
plastic shell to the wood top. Gently work a mini screwdriver or any thin pry tool
between the staple and shell. Repeat these steps until you pull out all
staples. The shells are brittle near the edges so work slow. After you reconnect
the wire to the pickup (That is why you're going in, right?) you can recycle
the staples by tapping them back into their holes or replace them w/ new by
tapping them in with a tacking hammer. The blow from a staple gun may crack
the shell. Or you can drill pilot holes for small screws and drive some in. The
screw heads will be covered by the rubber. I hope my guess is right. The
SDS-1s are constructed this way and I assume your pads are the same build.

if you want to stable with a gun
keep a piece off cardboard between the surface and the stablegun
after stabling (is this correct English) you remove the cardboard
this keeps the impact of the stablegun low

good luck

Autsch!
Simply stick your finger into the hole for the tom arm and press the
shell to the outside. If it does not come of completely, use anything
wooden or plastic to make the shell to come of without damaging the
plastic hooks of the shell, but better no metal screwdriver

The stapled ones are SDS7 and SDS1. SDS9s have the black plastic frame and a coloured bottom. As superwolle recommends on his page, insert finger into tom holder hole and press against the coloured hex cover from the inside. There are some plastic noses, pray, that they don't break.

Cheers,

I second that... But I think I restapled my SDS-1's after fixing them. Or
maybe I just squeezed the shell back on and decided to leave it like that...
