Hi, I'm a newbie, anyway here's a link to the Simmons web site where u
can find out more (or not) on the new SD5K:
http://www.simmonsdrums.net/sd5k

Yeh ok I was around in the 80s and I remember the reputation that
Simmons had in the marketplace, but hey we all gotta move on and get
with the times.
I am seriously thinking about getting the SD5K, it sounded okay in the
shop and as long as u dont compare it to anything that Simmons used to
make, you should be fine.
I posted 2 pics of it in the "photos" section.

Happy drumming

Paul

Hello Paul.
I just listened to the audio demo of the SD5K and I'm not impressed.
The dynamics of the sounds reminds of the first electronic kits of the 80's.
By now they should be able to make the dynamics less machinegun like, I mean it's 2006...
You mention that you shouldn't compare it to the drums that Simmons used to make, but
that's what people are going to do since the SD5K has the Simmons name on it.

I personally would like to see someone make a software version of the Simmons SDS-
modules, that way you could connect your pads to a laptop and get all the classic sounds.
I know I would be in drumming heaven.

Should you decide to get SD5K I wish you the best of luck.

Hello Paul,
I thought the SD5k sounded okay when I tried it. It was probably
targeted at the beginner level but it still has some good sounds. I
just wish it had a MIDI in port.

The one thing I really miss about the old simmons kits?
They really had the look down good. I think they were the first kits
that were made to be played and seen. Most electronic kits even
today are made to sit in someones house for practice (my opinion).
They don't look good. Dave Simmons was really on to something by
making his kit the way he did. I miss that aspect of the electronic
drum kit.
Cheers, Steve

One exception, the swedish Clavia Ddrum kick is a designer gem too. The rest of
their stuff is just plain awful style-wise...

[Simmons Drums] Re: The Simmons manual for SD5K

Ah Ha ! The Ddrum L shaped kick drum is great ! It's the one I'm
still using with my E kit today. A thing of beauty.
