Are the Simmons SDS5 pads compatible with an Alesis DM5?

Can't get them to work with the DM5. My SDS5 brain battery exploded several years ago and I'm just getting back into the band game. Bought an Alesis DM5 and thought I could us my old drum pads with it. Not working!!! Ugg!! Anyone out there that can help me? e-mail me if you have any advise.
