Hi all,

I'm sure this might have been asked before but....I just aquired an
SDSV and everything seems fine as far as power and triggering, but
there is no sound output from any of the outputs. Has anyone else had
this problem? If so, what was the fix, if at all. I'm sure I can find
a repair shop that can make sense of the schematics, but it would be
nice to not be going in with no reasonable idea of what the issue
might be. Thanks in advance for any ideas or hints.

Tom

Yes, that's right. The so-called british XLR wiring. SDSV individual outs (not l/r and mono) are designed for microphone inputs on a mixing console, because Simmons thought of insertig the SDSV brain between drum mics and console (sweet dream...). To get a fat output (line level), remove all seven 68 ohm resistors on the backpanel (wired between pin 1 and 3 on all seven individual outputs). And if you have your SDSV opened already, you can change the output wiring.

That's exactly what the problem was. It works great with each drum
going to a seperate channel in my board.

My next question would be: When a module is plugged into slot 5, it is
constantly triggered. I know about the little black tab in the socket
on the backplane, but it is missing from this one. Would this cause
the module to get slightly off track and ground out or self trigger?
All other slots work great, and they have the little tab in them from
what I can tell. If I have to, I can fashion something to fix it. Any
suggestions?

Tom

Hi Tom,
take some plastic, may be from something where yoghurt was in. Cut it with scissors to right size and put it firmly in the (hopefully) right slot. You can glue it in, if you want. If the module is still behaving strange, re-tin the contacts on solder side of the module.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. The old SDS-V´s cards doesn´t have goldplated edgeconnectors but they are pre-tinned. Sometimes you need to add some solder to each contact to make them thicker.

SDSV Edge connectors

2006-09-12 by clae13

Does anyone know where to buy the edge connector sockets for Simmons SDSV voice
cards, or even what to call them? I got as far as working out they're probably 0.1"
spacing between the card traces/connector fingers.

Uh, a supplier in Australia would be nice ....
