Simmons drums live

anyone in this group play a simmons kit out live? if so, just curious
as to what kind of reaction you get from folks. i am considering
joining a retro new wave band and using my sdsv kit ... plus save my
back a little from lugging around my much heavier acoustic gear.

I have been wondering that, too!

I always wanted to play my Simmons kit live, but everyone in my band would no longer let me because they said I got negative feedback from a bunch of drunk folks at Rosebuds Tavern. Now, my Ballistic Secrets days are OVER!!! I will now try again to play my Simmons kit, but not at bars that only allow country, jazz, or oldies. my original band idea is back again!!! i hope you would find the answer to that question because I don't really know (I don't really know about live, but there were simmons kits used in music videos recently. "Fly" by Sugar Ray, dated 1997 and "Ooh La La" by Goldfrapp, dated 2005-2006).

  Good Luck

I play in a prog/experimental rock band, playing only original material and I use a SDS7and SDS1000 with 5 pads together with an 8 piece acoustic kit. The band love it, and I've had no problems from the crowds. It'll be used for our upcoming gig in Lincoln and when we support Freak Kitchen on their UK tour. Why don't you come to our Cardiff gig, or check us out at www.myspace.com/sanctionmusic

I play Simmons live, however I play them in discos and nightclubs where they
go over like gangbusters.

I¹ll use either my SDS V or 8, syncussion and acoustic snare/cymbals.
Occasionally some drunk ass snickers at the hexes, but that¹s why I mix for
sheer brutality. I¹ve seen a few recent videos where the drummer mimes on a
rented hex kit, but that trend seems to be based largely on them serving as
visual signifiers for all things ³new wave² or ³80¹s². I actually play
mine.

I also see myself performing a kind of educational service to younger
musicians. I recall the very confused-looking goth kid who could not wrap
his head around the concept of analog and kept asking me about my ³samples².

I say go for it. Then again, I¹m a very ³out² Simmons player no secret
shame here.

Some weird stuff happening with the text in my reply, sorry about that. The
one that auto mailed back to me was totally scrambled. Do I have to turn off
the html formatting when I reply via my email? (OSX,Entourage)
