EPROMS on ebay

EPROMS on ebay

2005-11-30 by R. M. Hammond

Ok..... there are now several sds1 eproms on ebay (ten I think). I
just got a module a few weeks back and my question is:

Do ALL simmons eproms work with the sds1 pad. The ebay ad states that
these also work in the sds9 and "others". Just wondering before I
start bidding. Wouldn't want to win something I can't use.

thanks

As far as I can tell, they should do. The EPROMs used are either 8k
(2764) or 16k (27128) - the second part of the number is the size in
kilobits (eight bits = one byte). I think my SDS7 can use a 2732 for
some sounds.

Gordon.

these eproms on ebay are not actual simmons product, they are laser
copy labels glued onto a cheap eprom chip from a printer. the eproms
work, but don't sound very good at all. i am disappointed in the ones i
purchased off this person.

they charged me an arm and a leg for shipping and when i looked at the
postage, i was in shock. they charged me 15 times what the postage
actually was!

Avoid charlatans. I have clones of many EPROMs available for sale. These are
not copies made by sampling the sound into an EPB! They are cloned on an EPR
OM programmer (Exact copy, bit for bit. Like a CD copy as opposed to low
quality MP3s.) E-mail for availability and price list. Ask anybody on this list
who has bought from me. I don't sell junk. And I've also done custom work that
surpasses the expectations of my clients.

I wouldn't advice trying that. SDS-1 is a lo-fi sample player and the SDS-V
is a pure analogue. If you don't get into disguistingly high sampling
frequencies it won't sound as you expect...

electronically yours, jesper - with both

I can make them but please be aware that the circuits are different and the
charm of the 5 is real time tweakability. I can get close but if you want the
sound of SDS-V toms you should buy an SDS-V.

I read this post after I answered the original e-mail. Like the man said,
the SDS-1 is a lo-fi sample player. I own 3 of them and they are fun but if you
want analog thunder look for an SDS-V. If you still want chips to experiment
w/ on the SDS-1 I'll gladly work something out. It couldn't hurt to have
another variation on the theme.

Mike,
I sent a list of chips but I don't advise choosing cymbal sounds. They
require a longer playback facility than the SDS-1 offers. Most snares and
basses are "64" (short) sounds but some are "128". All the toms are "128".
Hope to hear from you shortly.

                       Greg
