Vintage Simmons Drums (UK) Users Group

Hey people,
Just stumbled upon this place a few days ago, I thought I was the only one still gasping for a
Simmons fix!
Question for you lot, I've been given some SDS9 pads, and the previous owner didn't exactly
believe in cleaning them over the last 17, 18 years, so there's sticker residue on the bottoms
and caked on dirt and grime on the playing surfaces. Do you have any recommended cleaners
to at least get the filth off? I don't care too much that they're a little scuffed up, they will be used,
after all (driving them through a TMC6 triggering a Korg ER1, works like a charm), but in their
current state they look kinda like they've been dug out of the moors...

Hi Stu,
My name is Rich, I reside near Pittsburgh, PA, USA. You sound
English! If you can purchase "Goo Gone" or a similar citrus based
cleaner, the gummy residue will safely lift off plastic surfaces.
Read the warnings on the label with regards to other surfaces
(lacquer, varnish, etc.) This will become an important tool in your
cleaning arsenal. Good luck, and keep in touch.

Hi Rich,
I am indeed English, but live not too far north from you (New Haven, CT). Thanks for the Goo
Gone tip, I had thought of it, but wasn't sure if it was safe to use on plastics. Do you have any
tips for cleaning the actual playing surfaces and the rubber sides of the pads? The old owner
didn't dust them in God knows how long, and so far I've barely put a dent in the discoloration or
the caked-on dirt.
