Concerning just the colours - the pads are painted in the "inside" and the
pads are in fact clear from the beginning. So use Wolfgang's advice first...

Hi Jesper, only the SDSV pads are colored on the inside. All others
are solid colored plastic without a separate laquer layer.

My single, solitary SDS1 pad has a back shell made from vacuum-formed 
black acrylic.  Definitely solid black plastic.

The homebrew ones are wrapped in green carpet...
