are there specific stands?
what about the arms or tom holders. in simmons photos, some of them
loo realy long? what about the part that actually fits into the drum
pad? does it need to be a certain length? is there a certain width a
well?

They appear to be very long because they're mounted backwards. Pearl
mounts have a long tube and a short tube joined together w/ an elbow.

i agree pearl stands were/are the bench mark for me
i have two simmons racks that basically wouldbe going spare that will hold 8-10 pc kits
but...........
when it come to serious gigging or even flexible setting up and strength and mounting accoustic harware such as a ride cymbal this is where they fail as the arms rotate round spars then again they are near 20 years old

But there are different rules for different kind of pads... maybe that's
something for the site Paul?

The SDS-3/4 fits on what I've learned to call Tamastands. Those pencil-thick
metal rods.
Same with Pollard by the way so maybe that was the way to go in the late
70's...
