SDS-6 is for Fxxk sake no kit. And neither is the SDS-2 AFAIK since it
didn't come with pads originally. I guess it used triggers from "real"
drums...

I guess I should vote for the SDS-2 otherwise since I think I'm the only one
on the list who has heard the "gongs" and "plings" from that one. ;)

Re: [Simmons Drums] New poll for Simmons_Drums

2005-02-17 by Patrice JACQUOT

ah ah guys ...the Ultimate simmons Kit ?
Is it possible to say that as they're all very very different even if producing a more or less close "Piouuww" together...
So here is my real vote even if I voted for the one I use all the time ....
that's mean why I tryed to get them all ...poor of me !?

SDSIII/IV for the pure analog sound

SDSV for the warm & ballsyer tom sounds

SDS7 for the cutting through (like a sword blade) highfrequencies filters ...

SDS9 for the best association of ballsy toms & nice foot /snare

SDX for the filters , the multisample pads , the positions , the assignable modulation, the sound quality...
&nearly make together all qualities of the previous SImmons models ,
& all thethings that made it the Fairlight of percussions
XRack for the same but in a smaller box !

The worse for me is the MTX9 with no interest at all (for me yet ) & the SDS1000 with the ridiculous useless crapy tomtoms (even if eproms are nice)...

I love them all because of the Tribal SOund they all have with more or less electro sound nuances ...

What about you guys ?

CU all,
Patrice.

All can do those, but in different ways...

Like me, thought I tend to stick with the analogue ones... :)

SDS-2 - Hell, I've promised Paul sounds and they'll come. This is clearly an
experimental unit and best at cowbells and metallic toms, but I love it for
it's cheesyness...

> SDSIII/IV for the pure analog sound

And what a sound that is. I have to lower the gain on my dedicated drum
mixer all the time when twiddling with the knobs on my SDS-IV. This is a
beast and I think I'll use it more than my SDS-V these days.

> SDSV for the warm & ballsyer tom sounds

Dare I say I hardly never use the tom channels? But hihat, snare, bass and
cymbal - Oh yes! SSM filters to die for!

> SDS7 for the cutting through (like a sword blade) highfrequencies filters
...

I've been close to buying one now and then, but not yet at least...

> SDS9 for the best association of ballsy toms & nice foot /snare

No idea really...

Probably cool, but I don't think an analogue head like myself would go for
it. If I only can get that SDS-III I've been promised... *gah*

> The worse for me is the MTX9 with no interest at all (for me yet ) & the
SDS1000 with the ridiculous useless crapy tomtoms (even if eproms are

AMEN! MTX-9 sucks bigtime, bought a set on german ebay with MTX-9, sold the
unit after a year and kept the stand and pads so no harm done. ;) Latino
disco was never my cup of tea...

> I love them all because of the Tribal SOund they all have with more or
less electro sound nuances ...

Yes! And I like them because they can be so far out. I mean like this; most
electronic drums try to emulate the real thing. So there is a bend function
that in the extreme knob positions (on other models) are either "piOUW" or
"ooo-P" while Simmons tend to go "Weeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiooooooooouuuuuuuuup" and
PIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiioooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwww" instead.
And that is applyable on other sounds too. A crash sounding like "cschhhhhh"
on another electro drum synth is
"czzzzzzzssssssssssssssccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuu" on
Simmons. Did anyone get me now or is it still to early in the morning? ;)

Agreeing! :)

I'm sure you would like SDX Jesper !
It's not only digital but also analog , & that's making the difference between a lot of other sampler ...the Filters are not cheap !!!
