This is an interesting question, Patrice. I might be able to find your answer
as I've been feeling nostalgic and have my Roland TD-7 kit triggering my
loaded SDS-V via MTM. I'm using the synth inputs on the 'V' and have a fair range
of dynamics. Do you have a manual? Because you may have to alter 1) The way in
which MTM recieves the trigger from Hexabugs and/or 2) the way MTM transmits
trigger to 'V'. The book is very "wordy" and cryptic but may offer the answer
you need. If the wiring scheme is at fault you may have to update your early
model SDS-V to meet the rest of civilization. I think they stopped the backward
wiring after serial # 250 anyway.

About the MTM, did you do a special patch or did you use a factory one ?

I did create a patch in the MTM. The factory patches are quaint but
antiquated and don't follow any convention. I developed a patch that follows General
MIDI specifications. So no matter what I write a rhythm with, my Simmons drums
can be integrated. It is tedious but once it's done it is done. Let me know if
I can help any more. I hate plugging equipment in and finding it doesn't work.
I feel your frustration.

you're right about the frustration !
but I know there's a way to do it ...this is the dark side of Simmons , you have to dive in the deepness of an esoteric world to do something that seems simple ...
The MTM is the one for that ...I didn't catch the pilosophy of this machine yet , I know what it can do , but I need to integrate the access of it ....

I'm afraid everything is hexasomething at simmons , so we are in the hexadecimal world too...

It would be great to create a sort of sysex to be able to exchange some programs together ...
for the moment I will try to make work the triggering part , later I will see the Midi one ...
I will let you know about my evolution in it .. or not ...

Thanks for being there ,
Patrice.

Re: [Simmons Drums] Mysterious MTM & SDSV triggering !?

2005-02-10 by Patrice JACQUOT

I started working on the MTM !
Waow !!!
complicated at first but incredible machine ! you really need to integrate the OS logic & being aware that you're on the good voice all the time ...
But I'm trying to adjust the more difficult thing in Drums triggering ; acoustic triggering ...& it fucking works great even with some low tensioned drum skins ...

I 'm planning to program other MTMs I have for an SDS7 & a Pearl DrumX, in more of my SDSV , to trigger all that from a Drumkat ...
I think that using Midi with MTM is creating a delay , so that's why I try to use an MTM per unit ... to avoid delayed delays ...

What do you think about that ? do you think it's worth doing it that way ?

See you soon ,
Patrice.

Re: [Simmons Drums] Mysterious MTM & SDSV triggering !?

2005-02-12 by Patrice JACQUOT

Hi ,
I worked on the MTM again & again ...
But I'm still experimenting some sort of unwanting triggering even by using Treshold parameters ...
My low Tom is the worse for it but it does also affect the small toms 8' & 10' ...

Any idea ? any parametrer that I could have forgotten !?

Basically when I have a good single triggering , (by adjusting the treshold quite high ...)I lose half of my dynamic & need to hit quite loud the toms ...
& if I adjust thetrshold lower false triggering comes back ...

thanks for reading ...
Bye,
Patrice.
