Simmons went bust, so the assets of the company
would have been sold off. I don't know who bought
  them.

I'm not sure it happened that way, so the thing is ; are the copyrights Dave's property or SIMMONS ELECTRONIC 's one ?
As Dave did a few companies from musicaid via Simmons electronic , Simmons digital & finally Sound Unit ...
I'm afraid Dave owns the copyrights of his machines & He's still healthy & alive
I'm sur eif he didn't that tere ould be some hexagonal japanese pads at the moment , as every drummer loves this Shape instead of anything else...
So the patents are still active I suppose !
Anyway we can consider SIMMONS doesn't exist anymore, but it doesn't allow anyone else having any exclusivity on the Simmons products & spares ...

  > About the SDS1000 eproms ,
  > they should fit in SDS7 & SDS9 as well ...

I'm not sure. The SDS9 had three (?) EPROMs for the
Snare AFAIK, and they could easily be changed to change
the sound. The SDS1000 had four snare samples in one
EPROM, and you had to take it out of the rack and open up
the case to get at them - I don't think it was meant to be
  changed.

  That's interesting, I didn't know the SDS1000 implementation...
Anyway , to me the eproms are the only interesting thing in the SDS1000
which have some poor toms sounds compared to any other unit from Simmons...
So it must be good to be able to find some ...

Thanks for your informations Steve .
  Bye.

  Steve
