Hello Rob, the pad XLRs are wired Pin 1 and 3: Ground and Pin 2: Signal. (The SDSVs outputs have their signal on pin 3). There has to be a resistor 1K (kiloohms) in parallel to the piezo. This gives a better sensitivity adjustment and less crosstalk. But the resistor makes it impossible to play the pad on other devices like Alesis or DDrum (but I am sure, nobody wants to do that ;-). So a good alternative is to solder the resistor inside the SDSV brain or make it switchable. For normal electrical function, the polarity of the piezo doesn't matter. But it is better to use the metal disc as ground and the crystal side as signal. This is a better shielding, if you play on stage near a dimmer pack. If you have your pads already open, fill them with wool or wadding: Your bass player can play with his normal volume setting again.
