Hello,
the selector pad is only 16 switches, arranged in a matrix with 4 inputs and 4 outputs. These have always to be isolated. In your case, something must shortcut one or more of them to ground potential, disturbing the I/O section of the CPU. This might be: A bad jack, a bad cable or- a contact made when the selector jack is inserted into the socket. Several easy tests first: Try to insert the selector jack only half. Remove the selector jacks housing and plug it in without it. Examine your cable, if there is something hurt. While inserted, shake your selector cable near its jack and near the point, where it goes into the housing. What happens? Then: Check, if there is a connection/ shortcut between the ground wire and one of the 8 data wires in the jack. If so, search, where this happens.

  I would just like to say that Roger Davis is one COOL customer!!! I fell so bad about the SDS7 brain that I sold to him on e-bay. I was REAL worried that something would go wrong with it because it made a trip across the USA. EAST to WEST. I hope that someone out there can help with the problem with the selecter pad. It sure would be great if it worked right. Hats off to you Roger and know that I will help you out with this to the END!!!

  Hi there,
  I'm the buyer and certainly hold no grudges. The brain works fine. 
  Only the display goes out when the selector pad is connected. I'm 
  not too worried about it, but it would be cool to figure it out. 
  I'll look a little closer at the multi-pin connectors when I get a 
  chance. Overall it's a great piece.
