Hi Steve, Yeah, they can be taken apart but with care like any of the other pads. You'll notice that if you lift up the rubber rim the shell is stapled in to the plywood, it's just a matter of carefully pulling the staples out without cracking the shell. I use a sharp pointy knife to get it started and then a broad flat screwdriver once there is enough room to slip it under. You should be able to tap the staples back into their original holes once you've done your repairs.
