Hello,
the diagnostic is difficult without the SDS9 on the table, but I'll try. You don't need a stereo pad to check, if you work with button mode or midi. Open the unit to check several things. (If you are not experienced, let a repair shop do it). All following parts are on the main PCB, most located in the area around the eprom sockets. First: Check for signal yes/no at pin4 on rim DAC (IC 31). If no, check, if counters IC 27 and 28 are working (you should hear different frequencies of the counter stages, if you have no scope). Is the very low beep you were talking of changing in frequency, if you alter the rims pitch?
Your trigger LED is working, so you should have an envelope at pin 14 of IC 31, verify that (check also the 3.9k resistor). If you have working counters and the envelope is present, change IC 31 .If you can hear a raw rim noise at the DACs output (pin 4), check signal flow to IC 33 pin 6. If you can hear the snare sound, this IC is not dead and you are lucky, because it is an expensive one (CEM 3372). Check all parts in the signal path from IC 31 to IC 33. IC 33 mixes the snare and the rim together (and more...), if you can hear the snare, all parts after IC33 are ok. There is also a CV regulating the balance between snare and rim sounds, you should test that on pin 5 of IC 33: If you alter the snare/rim balance, something must happen with the CV there (and the snare sound should fade out at least). If no change in voltage is noticed, you should check demux IC 65 and s/h TL074 (IC 13).
If you need the schematics, no problem. If you need the unit repaired, ask Thierry EPPHERRE from france, he is the specialist (godfather) for SDS9.
