AKAI democratised the samplers yes ! the SDX was clearly a FAIRLIGHT for percussionist & drummers but also for producers ! As Fairlight the goal was to do the best thing available at that time ...& the price was consequent... AKAI was bringing the sampling affordable ...after Fairlight & Emu ... Information is sparse, which seems a bit ungrateful to me, if Simmons did help the guy go on to sell however many gazillion albums. >>>>>>>>>>>>> Dave probably helped him to be able to drum again ...& to come back in Def Leppard ... with the Huuge sound they needed ! they had the huge producer (Mutt' Lange) they needed to sell the "gazillion " albums .... But Rick did the fucking job to come back , & the band composed some incredible singles... that millions of people loved. There's no need to love them or not , but they had an incredible story ! Simmons had been a small part of it , but a solid one. iHe probably gave them the chance to stay all together , quite an important aspect I think, when you have to run all over the world ... especially that they had a guitar player death to manage as well ... anyway, hope that helps , Patrice.
