  Yes I agree with Tommy. From memory the SDS-8 has a toroidal 
  transformer with a single primary winding. The SDS-9 / 1000 / etc. 
  have links on the PCB with a standard transformer that let you switch 
  the primary for 110/230V (be careful though if you're following the 
  Simmons schematics to do this though because they've got the diagram 
  wrong and you'll blow your kit up !).
