Not only it is for program changing, it is also for stepping back and forth between sequences and patches, as mentioned in the TMI owner's manual I downloaded. I had to download the instructions because I really did not understand how to program the devicesince I bought it on eBay in September, 2004. Since I already got the Yamaha DTX 2.0's 72 MIDI notes programmed onto the console's 28th dum kit on MIDI channel 10, and as soon as I can get two more all-black Simmons SDS9 tom pads (no snare pads) to complete my kit, I will start programming my TMI and I will use the footswitch to go back and forth between the 50 patches on that unit so I will not have to reach down, try to read the LED display, and push the arrow buttons after playing a song. This would be the same procedure as from back when I played my Simmons SDS1000 live on stage (before I was told I cannot play them anymore due to all of the negative feedback like "can this kid afford real drums?", "those things look stupid!!!", and "these drums sound like crud!!!"). Yes, I did have a regular Simmons footswitch for the SDS1000, but I found out it doesn't work on my TMI because it requires a dual footswitch. Thanks for asking.
