Re: SDS7 battery and problems

2006-05-06 by evening_soundgate

Gordon,

Thanks. Was the original Simmons battery lithium? I thought that it
might have been a nicad. Anyway, it's dead and needs replacement.

All of this started when I came home to find my SDS7 in an unhappy
state, black display with all button LEDs lit and that faint odor that
means trouble. :-{

On inspection I discovered that one of the diodes on the memory board
was fried and the battery was *completely* dead.

I replaced the diode and removed the battery, and just to see I turned
the unit on - now I get strange flashing lights, but nothing else
useful. Perhaps the circuit needs the battery in place but my fear is
that the memory board is fried.

off to buy a battery holder..
