Howdy Paul B.
    My mallet does work. I do have use for pitch bend  as I run my output 
through a handful of pedals including a Boss Mega Distortion  and a Snarling Dog 
Mold Spore Wah in order to get away from traditional mallet  playing. I play 
seated in order to dance on the pedals while playing up top and  attempt to 
make sounds like a guitarist or '70s synth player. However, I  wish I could 
stretch an octave rather than a measly  fifth.
