Skip steps on TKB?

Skip steps on TKB?

2008-07-13 by Kylee Kennedy

There is probably something obvious but I've gotten about 3 days into my new Serge and I can't figure out the best way to have the sequencer skip steps or not send a signal on a step. What do I need to patch? This is a 78/79 make TKB.
Also row B is dead on mine and seems to give out a 10+ Volt signal..Does this issue sound familiar to anyone? At some point this will go in for a full service and complete banana plug replacement but I'm having to much fun with it.

Welcome and congrats!

Try this. Patch TKB row B, for example, to the VC IN of the TKB clock source (DTG, DSG, or VC CLOCK, etc.), turn that input's processing knob full clockwise and set to BOTH, if available. Turn the knob for the step you want to skip to full clockwise.

Maybe there's a different or better way... I'll let you know if I find more.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will give those suggestions a try. I was previously stepping the TKB with my TR-808. Syncing it up and also processing a few hits with the DSG. Really wild stuff and tightly synced. It worked right off the bat.
Following up with my issues, Does anyone know a good Serge repair technician in the LA area?

Ah, nice combination. I used an 808 in conjunction with my Serge when I had it.

Be careful, though, the trigger outputs of the 808 are very hot, i.e., 15v. The rails on the Serge PS are +-12v so I'm not sure what effect a 15v trigger will have.

Here's the 808 service manual where I found this info:

Good point. Don't want to kill it. Maybe a few resistors between?

I've ordered doepfer modules to interface with my serge and think I was
told no-one experienced any problems except, of course, the banana
sockets and the need to attenuate the Doepfer 10v pk to pk oscillator.

I seem to recall some modules with 15 v triggers. Has anyone had any
experience with this or is anyone certain it could cause problems?

Thanks, Billy

I too would like some clarification on this point. I keep meaning to call Rex about it. Will a
12v trigger cause any damage to the Serge (yes, the systems have common
ground/earth)? I have been doing it, and have not broken anything yet, but I do worry
about it. So if anyone had a definitive answer that'd be wonderful.
