Serge compatiblity

2008-05-15 by williambbaggett

I am intersted in receiving any information group memebers have regard
to success interfacing Serge equipment with that of OTHER
MANUFACTURERS. I am most concerned with Serge's 5 volt peak to peak
standard and, of course, bananna plugs.

Has anyone had experience integrating modules/panels from other
manufacturers in Serge enclosures? I doubt it - not without buying new
blank panels, drilling holes, installing boards, etc.

Finally, I have a 13 + panel system, but constantly find myself wanting
more manual mixers and, to a lesser extent, CV attenuators. If anyone
has a panel or panels with these modules they are interested in selling
or trading, drop me a line.

Thanks ! Billy

I had no problems whatsoever using my Serge with Dotcom modules (back when I still had a Dotcom system) and currently have no issues using my Serge CV and audio with various Moog pieces - moogerfoogers, Little Phatty. When I used it with Dotcom stuff, I had some Dotcom 1/4"-to-bananna panels. I also have some 1/4"-to-bananna cables that work just fine.

The only critical thing is to have a _common_ground_. Ground your Serge PS to your MIDI/CV converter or other voltage source, otherwise you won't get proper triggers/gates.

Serge responds just fine to the usual 1v/oct generated by sequencers and MIDI/cv converters without any problems at all.

Best Regards, James

i received my set of mini to banana cables from Rex on friday and spent the morning
interfacing my creature with my euro rack without a hitch. In fact the serge creature is a
welcome addition to my euro set up. Highly Recommended! as James mentioned, only
thing is to make sure you have a common ground. Rex can set you up with this if you ask.

So the 10 v peak to peak voltages of the system you are interfacing with (what was it?) didn’t cause you any problems ? Don’t you have to mix/attenuate all oscillators before interfacing with the Serge? I ask this because Serge is 5V pk.to pk and not all modules have attenuation for audio signals. Maybe I just need more mixers. Thanks!
