panel consensus

panel consensus

2003-08-15 by circlesround

Hello again,

For all of the advice received in response to my prior posting, I am
most grateful.

From these replies, I have tentatively decided upon the following
arrangement:

Wilson Analog Dealy (WAD)
Frequency Shifter (FRS)
Dual Transient Generator (DTG)
- with 'Signal In' mod.
Resonant Equalizer (EQ)
Wave Multipliers (VCM)
Dual Channel Stereo Mixer (DCSM)
Active Processor (ACPR)
Adapters (ADP)

I had initially hoped to include the Dual Universal Slope Generator
(DSG) in lieu of the DTG, but the FRS is a three space module instead
of two (as I had initially thought it to be). The only option here
would be to see if the ADP could be squeaked into the 'blank' panel
space on the FRS - not likely however.

Once more, my primary intent here is to create a panel for processing
external audio.

I welcome any final opinions regrding this configuration.

Best wishes -

Trevor

I have a mini jack to banana strip over my FRS blank panel. I believe the
catalogue advises such - in order to avoid wasted space.
Think again about the DSG, it's really one of the best Serge modules.

Hi,

I agree with Chris here, drop the ADP and use the real estate to expand
the DTG into a DSG.

Even if you can't squeek some jacks onto the blank portion of the FSR,
you can alway make a little box that has mini jacks, 1/4" phone jacks,
and banana jacks for use in physical "protocol" conversion (don't forget
to put an extra banana jack on your little box for signal ground). Note that
Paul Schriber makes just such a little panel (if you don't feel like making one
on you own) that can probably be mounted in a utility box.

???

Why DSG? The 1v/oct and rise/fall/both switches, and the bipolar out
distinguish the DSG from the DTG and I use them rarely.

For a single-panel config I'd stick with the DTG - it's 95% of the DSG
functionality.

I use them all the time.

Considering that the difference between the DSG and DTG is only an issue of
panel space (same PCB), if you put it next to the FS, you may well be able
to get it to fit using the FS waste panel strip.

I had spoken about this with both Serge and Rex. Serge was willing to go
to the extra work of getting a module that had one less space
requirement for the PCB (the DSG was one of them), but he said it was
really a problem for construction and service, since the FRS board would
cover the panel of the other module. Rex said "no way". Your choices are
pretty much an adaptor or a control module.
