This past weekend I was in Oregon for the Zimbabwe Music Festival. I found an opportunity to
visit with John DuVall and the Fist of God. Just like here in Seattle we tell all our out-of-town
guests to go back home and tell everyone else how much it rains, so am I to tell you all what a
total weirdo this guy is. We spoke of many things "Serge", how we each came into this strange
heritage of music making, the evils of modern day usage of technology, the role of women in
performances of eclectic eletronic nature, and a whole host of other topics that would be of
passing interest to this group if I had the time to go into it all. Suffice it to say that I had
a great time and look forward to hearing his new CD when I get a chance.
Since I haven't owned a Serge for several decades now, it was quite refreshing to see how the
old beast still has (for me) retained much of its character and draw. Whether its a simple panel
or two, or a whole 24 panel system. In my approach to modern day electronics, I find myself still
thinking in terms of the patchcord system and wonder why it was ever abandoned. I know, I know,
recalling patches is seen as important. And yet at such a cost...
Take care all,
Stephen
