quantizer delay...

quantizer delay...

2003-02-15 by John Papiewski

I've run my TKB quantizer thru hoops this morning, using the tkb part
and the open channels and I don't hear any delay. I know there must be
some delay since nothing on this earth responds in zero seconds but at
least on mine (a one year old STS unit) it's not musically objectionable
in the least.

Or I may just need to get my ears cleaned but that's another ball of wax
:O

John,

or it may be that I am the Bozo of the year. This was how I tested the QTKB=
on
George's Serge: I took the TKB OUT A outputs of the QTKB, routed it into th=
e
QTKB INPUT 1 and used QKTB OUTPUT 1 to control the NTO. I assumed that
the TKB OUTS of the QTKB were just duplicates of the unquantized ROW
OUTPUTS of the TKB.

But if they are already quantized that would explains the delay/portamento =

(due to double quantization) I noticed. Am I right...errr...wrong?

And if the TKB OUTS of the QTKB are quantized outputs, how do the
unquantized TKB signals get into the QTKB panel (stupid question, but
anyway)? Does this connection has to be made by STS or can one do it on
his own (in case you buy the TKB and some time later a panel with a QTKB)?

Please help an ignorantÂ…
Best regards

Every TKB made by STS has an extra cable
coming out of the back. You connect this to
the cable that comes out of the back of a
TKBQ panel. It's that simple and you can
also request the length you need.

However, if a TKB or TKB Quantizer panel
didn't have these cables (older Serge systems
maybe) then I assume you would have to wire
them up yourself! :)
