Print tool unsupported file format error message

Print tool unsupported file format error message

2015-06-01 by kellyhealy@...

If this is not the place to ask about Print Tool please redirect me

All of a sudden I have had an error message when drag and drop images into print tool

"file format= not supported"

The images are Tiff saved from PSCC 2015. The same happens with PSD and JPEG both color and B/W greyscale. I have flattened the images etc no difference. If I try to save the image in a different format sometimes the image will load and print. All of the images will print fine using the Epson driver.

All of the images that I have had problems with have been images processed wit Tony Kuyper's Luminosity mask actions. The problems persists even after i flatten the image.

The problem seems to resolve itself through save and resaving but with no reproducible method.

Thanks

Kelly

Have you cleared the channels that Tony's masks create? They can take up a lot of space, and may well confuse Print Tool. It works on my machine with them still there so it is a bit of a wild guess.

Hi Kelly,

There are a couple of possibilities. I have not used Tony's mask stuff but I have heard of it.

My guess is you end up using features in TIFF format that are Photoshop specific and
the standard OSX libraries do not support it. Which OSX version?

Layers would be a likely issue but you say you've flattened the files. I'd make sure of
this in the Save As command. Also the Photoshop Preferences > File Handling has
a "maximize PSD & PSB compatibility" -- should be Yes or Ask (with yes later).
Since you are using masks that may be the source of problem. There's usually at most
one Alpha Channel but you can create more and I'm not sure how this will be treated.

If you can reproduce this on a file you can send me I'd like to see if I can understand
what it is that causes this.

Thanks for replying
I am using Mavericks
When you mentioned Alpha channels.....
The actions panel lets you generate a lot of Alpha channels.which are then used to generate masks. Alpha channels should be discarded as masks are generated. (15 channels generated with 3 clicks) I am new to the action set and had been leaving alpha channels in the stack, Big file size!!!!!

I dumped the alpha channels from 2 problem images but left the layers intact. they saved as Tiff's and I was able to print with print tool. I also flattened them and they printed.
It s not a problem to dump alpha channels as they can easily be replaced as needed. I just need to be more tidy.....
I will try again tomorrow but that seems to be the issue

Thanks Kelly

Thanks for the replies. Since I am new to luminosity masks I was leaving too many alpha channels open when I saved as tiff and tried to print a proof with print tool Deleting the alpha channels solved the problem. Deleting the channel masks worked consistently this morning.
Thanks all
