Oh brother....

Oh brother....

2008-04-21 by (i think you can figure that out)

Just received a letter from a person who has acused us of faking the
new module pictures. "obvious fakes" were his exact words.

I've just added a shot to the MIsc folder. It's one of the originals we took outside the building last Thursday. It's the last picture in
there entitled Mini1.

Matter of fact in the picture of the Vector Plotter, if you look in the ball joint of the joystick you'll see a little black reflection in the center. That's Sam, who took the pictures. I held them in place and adjsted the angles to kill as much reflection as possible.

My take on it is: so what if it is CG? It clearly isn't, but even if
it was, using a CG mock-up for product announcement is common place.
For the sake of argument, if Plan B did present CG for the
announcement is that somehow supposed to deter from their cred? It's
absurd to think that it would even be an issue.

Don't let'em tear you down Peter. I like where you are going with
these new modules. Keep pushin' it man. Further, always Further.

Re: Oh brother....

2008-04-22 by (i think you can figure that out)

I did mess with the pictures a bit. I mean, obviously I took them out
of the 'real' background which was a bricked-off windowsill on the
side of 292a Main St Pomona. When I looked at them on my PC at work,
they looked fine. When I got them home, on my Mac they had a greenish
tint to them. So yeah, I color corrected. Guilty as charged!

The moral of the story is there's always going to be people saying
tjhings. We have had a handful of new members to this blog in the
past couple of weeks who's yahoo account was created the very day they
joined this list. Their profiles have no information on them, their
email address hidden. hmmmmmmm. I moderate spam with an iron fist -
it's not the Rolex watch people who are trying to see what's going
down on the list. The bottom line, while we have had our share of
growing pains, we have addressed them. That's the issue. It's one
thing to ignore the truth, it's an other to admit and adjust as a
result. I'm very glad to be out of the house, but really it would have
been a lot less expense to stay there physically and where we were as
a company. But that's chickenshit. You guys, our customers, are more
important than that, you deserve better. It's worth doing what we
need to make sure that happens.

Don't mind the trash talk, guys. It'll be there as long as we are. As I type this there's a guy having a field day on the Matrixsynth announcement on our new product. I sent him a personal letter about it, he answers it on a public forum. How to type that noise you make when you roll your eyes?

Let's just make some music together - at the end of the day, this is what it's all about.

Thanks for your support - I mean it.

I agree. Build them so we can get down to the business of making music with 'em. ;-)

Re: Oh brother....

I appreciate this, very much. But I will not fool myself nor my
colleagues that I didn't make mistakes in my early years. Late
deliveries on custom gear. Some of it was caused when my mother
became ill and passed away, but some of it was just my irresponsibly.
We all learn and I have but yeah, it continues. And they pop their
heads up when we announce things, so their comments are right there
with any kudos we may also get.

So yeah, I deserved some of it. But there are a few people around this
community, ex and current Plan B employees, friends, who've seen how
hard we've worked to clean the slate. Obsessively in fact. All the
manufacturers go through this. I'm not trying to throw roses in my
path. It's the part of the job they don't put in the brochure but it
takes you a while to get the clue and you make mistakes in the process
and I did. You don't come into this game knowing how to spin ten
plates, you learn as you go and some fall in the process.

Peter,

I don't get it - you seem to attract far (far!) more than your share of internet hostility (particularly on matrix). Yet I've never seen a single thing that would indicate that you deserve any of it. Quite the contrary in fact. I guess it's the down side of being a more public figure than some of the other manufacturers (and, I'd guess, a more enthusiastic one - there's a certain breed of troll that seems to loathe positivity). entirely fwiw, you have my support and respect. I'll definitely be buying several of these "non-existent" modules as soon as I have money again.

Pierre

p.s. no plans to add a U.K. distributor?

Funny! I noticed the reflection of the photographer, but assumed it was
just some novelty rendering effect... I didn't look very carefully
though.

Have you looked at Doepfer's module product pages? Not a single real
photograph among them! It must be some sham company set up to defraud
synth enthusiasts. In fact, I just took a close look at my mixed
eurorack modular, and it turns out everything is just made of
cardboard! How in the world did I miss that before? ;)

Of course there was a profile to update. Consider it updated.
I'm not a hater, friends, just a lurker.
Nothing but positive vibes, man.
Don't let the kung fu dancing, green yarn dread extended, fake bondage
pants wearing pseudo-industrialists get you down.

I mean, really, you guys in Cali need to get to work. Hippies.
