SN Voice

2007-10-11 by gino wong

I just ordered a pcb for an SN 76477 module. Most of us have messed
around with these things for years. So Tom Henry tricked it out and
another fella came up with a pcb (run of 50) uses a cd4046 PLL.

I want to do it as a 2-3u voice panel.

Do I have any brethren ?

I'll try to get to this one, but it will be a little while.
What options do people want to see in it?

hey everyone - i have an snvoice on a a 4U panel using big switches and rotaries.
i would prefer it was 2U (3u at max) - i find the rotaries for pulse width could
be replaced with a spst between LFO/ENV modulation, the rotary for the
lfo speed could be a center off mini switch for three speeds, i could live without
the fine tune control, i could deal with less CV inputs and attuns, i like scott's mod
for changing the env response, but could just do it with a trimpot. i really enjoy
to have the mixer inputs to an input jack - its allot of fun to send an lfo into them
to sweep from noise/vco/lfo etc. look there its almost 2U - but still a few pots
n jacks too much - any other opinions? i could deal without the pulse width inputs
because the lfo/env do such a good job allready

what a great module -

How do folks feel about adding a VC Resistor PCB for VC Filter Freq?
The caveat is my PCB only take positive CVs, and my bipolar PCB is a
little ways out still (debating whether to stick to vactrol or use a
13700...)

Dave, do you use the key input to noise control much? That controls the
pitch of the noise, or what?

Yes! For one of those plus the SN Supercontroller. MOTM, of course.

I also have 2 SN-Voice PCBs on the way from Bill, and intend to get
some sort of panel together in the MOTM format (ideally 2u as I'm
quickly running out of space), so, I'm with you on this one.

Re: SN Voice

My feeling is that since this could be nearly a complete standalone voice if some sort of
filtering or wave animation was on board. In a modular synth that idea is pretty amazing.

If you need to knock out an extra hole or two in the panel in anticipation of a near future
upgrade, we'd be fine with that.

yo dave
i'm not quite cipherin' the mixer input trick. how do you sweep them w/
an lfo? i see three logic pins.

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] SN Voice

2007-10-16 by david wright

hey guys - sorry i've been out with an ear infection in my good ear! let me answer
some questions - even though i'm deaf now i just messed around with the sn-voice.
i take back anything i said about being 2U, it should def be 3U

i will wire up your vactrol cv resistor board tonight/tomorrow scott and try it on the filter
i think it would be really nice addition - sending cv to the pitch source is great fun
and the filter is really sweet and its there so why not

on the logic inputs i didnt mean sweep in the synth sence - but with a lfo you can switch
between one of two (or three w/ another lfo) of the chips modes - which are fun! but not
as important as the other features of the snvoice

you should have your snvoice soon

dave
ps i got one of the supercontroler boards as well and would be down for a panel for it too!

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] SN Voice

you guys haven't been lucky! hopefully the bairn stays healthy.

i'd imagine we'd just have to condition the lfo(s) to the mixer logic
chips. pin 26 would be nice, and would give a mix of vco and noise.
would negative voltage hurt the SN chip? maybe, so we'd just have to
clamp the lfo's between ground and 2-3V.
and we'd have to cut traces...

maybe a 1u expansion panel is in order: VC Noise Filter, Gated Mixer
Control... hmmm...

I'm guessing the Mankato is engineered to go along with the SN voice very nicely as well.

Re: SN Voice

yes, count me in!

im just about done soldering my SN voice and i would very much prefer
a bridechamber panel with all SN-documented options. im not
particularly down for any "add-ons"--i want to finish this thing
without the pressure of dealing with extras or modifying the pcb.

I'd like one also. Does anybody have any suggested layouts?

Re: SN Voice

Hey Todd,

I like that layout -- nicely done. The only thing I'd add is the Noise "Keyboard" jack, since
we have room anyway.

I'll do the SN-Voice in the January panel run.

The current run has:
4-pot brackets
120R
320R
Doomsday
SubOsc
Tau Phaser (those went fast!)
DotCom Optic CV
DotCom Wave Mults

Cheers,
Scott
