New member, thanks for allowing me.

Recently joined. Thanks for letting me in!
I'm not sure if anyone has heard of me. :( but oh well. i'll just
have to start fresh with all of you.

The names logan, i've been working with electronics now for about 2
years. I'm not an expert my no means. And i am just finally getting
into building my own synths, etc. I hope to build my own modular by
the end of next year. And of course within this year and next i'll
buy purchasing as many MOTM modules as i can afford. I've heard'em in
use, and im in love.
One thing i'm learning to do is designing my own front panels. and
was hoping to get a few questions answered...

1. what format are all of the files in? i dont believe i have the
correct program to view them. If someone could clue me in on any
programs that are good for front panels, etc. that would be great.

2. Once i get my panels made, does anyone know of a good labeling
scheme? as in.. transfer paper (make on computer, print out, bake on
in oven...). rub on, etc.

Anyways, Thanks again for allowing me to join, i'll keep quite a
little while until i start to get more and more comfortable with
everything this group is about, etc. I own "benders anonymous" here
at yahoo groups. and it's mostly about circuitbending stuffs, so
actual synth theory is somethign i'm a little new to.. granted, i've
been using synths for 5 years, i know how they work. but i'm talking
electronicly(circuits, design, etc). This stuff facinates me and i am
willing to put any amount of money into information that will help me
learn more. So i hope to learn alot and perhaps help out a little
while in this group. And of course, contribute my designs, as i get
to owning my own MOTM.

take care

Hi Logan.

The software is at http://www.schaeffer-apparatebau.de/English/index.htm

That's the company that makes the panels. They're painted, drilled and
etched, all ready to go.

ps anyone can join the group except spammers :)

Welcome, Logan.

Most of the panels here (as far as I know) are being made by Schaeffer
Apparatebeau, a German company. We are doing group purchases. Go here and
download their Front Panel Designer (free software):

http://www.schaeffer-apparatebau.de/English/index.htm

You will then be able to read, modify, and print the files on motmpanels
file system.

As far as labelling, Schaeffer panels include it. Lettering is engraved and
then painted. MOTM-style labelling is actually quite easy. There is also
discussion on this list about which engraving tools to use, etc. Look at
the archives.

I just got my first Schaeffer panels recently, and I am very happy with
them. You can see my designs in the file system, and are welcome to use and
modify them.

Check out the panels Larry and Dave already have
available to see if they would suit your needs:

http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/panel.htm

Ken Tkacs also has info on how to roll you own at home
with printed labels. These seem to have really great
results for many people. I think the Bergotron (sp?)
also uses this method.

Cheers!

got the program..

yeah the panels are nicely designed. Ill have to tinker around with
this.

I'm hoping to get some panels made for my Circuit bent instruments.
i'm making a bent modular. that will go in with my MOTM when i get
it.

I want to beef up the panels and have pictures on them.. like....
Ken Stone's.. something similar to that.. but obviously different.
The basic panel design is. then adding the picture to the plate.
i think it makes the module just a little more exciting.. :)
