Hi James, I'm waiting to see what Doug Wellington has to say about the reissue of Stooge Panels. Hey Doug! What's happening? Richard Brewster http://www.pugix.com James Elliott wrote:

It's been a busy few weeks, but I think I'm still on track to have the first batch of panels by the end of January. I've already got all the aluminum (1U, 2U and 3U wide) and textured paint taken care of. I still need to deal with the silkscreen side of things, but since I don't have an oven (at least not this time of year!) the panels will take 7-10 days to properly cure, so I wanted to get that started first. I can finish dealing with the screens while I'm waiting for the paint to dry... I'm also making production arrangements for stooge brackets and cabinet mounting rails. I hope to have those ready in February. At this point, I'm planning to use Paypal for all payments. I hope that doesn't cause anybody any difficulties... I still owe a couple people replies to private email - I should be able to get to that this Friday. Looks like I'm going to go to NAMM next week - anybody going to be there? Hiya everyone! It's going well. The metal is almost done, then to the silkscreeners -- hopefully two weeks, but I keep thinking that. Smaller orders in the future will make things much faster. The VC Resistor PCB is available, as well as many component kits and such. Cabinets are ready; just waiting for the mounting brackets being done w/ the panels. The Nano-LFO PCB is nearly done being laid out (my first done on my own! :) -- very small and simple, for retrofitting, circuit-bending or modulars. PCB-mounted speed pot, square and triangle outs. I'll keep you posted once the panels are close, including a list of designs. Cheers, and happy modularing, Scott Deyo The Bridechamber contact@... www.bridechamber.com

hi doug, question about the new stooge panels...are they aluminum like FPE's? it sounds like you will be texturing them for a motm-style appearance (NOT like FPE). i know how easy it is to scratch the black from FPE panels...but im not sure if thats the fault of the aluminum or the FPE color coat (paint or whatever that it they use). what will be similar or different between FPE and the new stooge panels (or for that matter, between the old and the new). were larry's panels made from the same material as pauls? they both seem to be relatively heavy. thanks, hans --- Doug Wellington <DougWellington@...> wrote: > On 1/10/07, Richard Brewster <pugix@...> > wrote: > > I'm waiting to see what Doug Wellington has to say > about the reissue of > > Stooge Panels. sorry folks, this was supposed to go directly to doug. but im thinking i have the same question for scott too, as i just noticed that his (bridechamber) panels are "punched aluminum". --- "> angelzero <" <loopcycle@...> wrote: > hi doug, > > question about the new stooge panels...are they > aluminum like FPE's? it sounds like you will be > texturing them for a motm-style appearance (NOT like > FPE). i know how easy it is to scratch the black > from > FPE panels...but im not sure if thats the fault of > the > aluminum or the FPE color coat (paint or whatever > that > it they use). what will be similar or different > between FPE and the new stooge panels (or for that > matter, between the old and the new). were larry's > panels made from the same material as pauls? they > both seem to be relatively heavy. > > thanks, > hans > > > > --- Doug Wellington <DougWellington@...> > wrote: > > > On 1/10/07, Richard Brewster <pugix@...> > > wrote: > > > I'm waiting to see what Doug Wellington has to > say > > about the reissue of > > > Stooge Panels. I don't have any FPE panels myself, but I think they are anodized, which is a nice thing to do show off a nice piece of metal. We anodize a lot of bicycle parts - it's especially fun to leave stickers on the metal while they're being anodized - the pattern really looks nice! (Sort of like dying an easter egg, if you know what I mean.) Since anodizing doesn't add anything to a surface like paint would, it works really well on parts like front shocks, where there is a seal that slides up and down on the surface of the metal. I'd compare anodizing to a coat of dye on the surface of a piece of wood. Very nice looking, but not quite as durable as a polyurethane paint. [OLD TIMER STORY: Several years ago, I was visiting a maker of fine electric basses in Santa Barbara and he gave me a tour of his shop. One of the instruments was apart on the bench, and he bragged about how tough the "hard anodize" finish on the battery panel was. To demonstrate, he picked up a flat blade screwdriver and started to rub it on the panel. When he tilted the screwdriver at an angle, it left a HUGE gouge in the panel! He just stopped and stared at it, then we moved quickly on to the next room. Moral, not many finishes can withstand the corner of a screwdriver!] > what will be similar or different > between FPE and the new stooge panels (or for that > matter, between the old and the new). were larry's > panels made from the same material as pauls? they > both seem to be relatively heavy. As I said, I don't have any FPE panels, so I can't truly compare, but my panels will be like Paul's and Larry's. I'm using the same metal, the same paint, and the very same silkscreens that were created for the original Stooge Panels. Doug http://www.stoogepanels.com http://www.analognotes.com

Mine are punched aluminum, .125" thick. Paint is textured black. (First run 1U modules were .09" thick; this has been remedied.) FPE paint is horrible, and way too expensive for the quality, especially when they charge per tick mark. If Doug can figure a way to do custom panels for people, with Stooge quality... that would be superb. Stooges looked exactly like MOTM to me. Mine are a little different. The textured paint is subtly different, the paint is whiter, and I'm still debating whether to match the graphics exactly. Cheers, Scott Deyo The Bridechamber contact@... www.bridechamber.com

FPE panels are anodized, not painted. Their black anodize is a bit on the flat side. I much prefer the MOTM/Stooge paint and silk screen, but it is not always available.
