Hello everyone,

I've recently started learning about synth DIY. I already have a fair
knowledge of electronics. I couldn't find a Q&A site already on the web that
suited me. So I set up a wiki to organise my ideas and to have answers on.
Only I'm not much of a writer.

Now I'm spending more time getting the wiki good enough to be useful, than
doing breadboarding/soldering. The wiki still needs a lot of content adding.
At the moment, for sharing schematics I'm linking off-site to wherever the
schematic might be posted.

You're all welcome to use it as well. It's at http://www.sdiy.info or just
sdiy.info

Rob

Surely, you checked out Muff Wiggler.

http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/index.php

Plenty of info and help on DIY there.  Your wiki can only add to the fun.

The problem with Muff Wiggler is the proliferation of trolls on that site, also double check any answers you get from them, there are a lot of people who "think" they know what they are doing, and don't try to correct them, or you could be in for a bashing.
It's a shame really, it used to be such a nice site, but until they bring in some serious regulating, I would avoid it.

Just my 2c worth

Dave, that has not been my experience on muffwiggler's DIY forum at all. Unless you are talking about the "correct way to power a Euro rack" in which case several experts can get into a lively discussion, the help offered on muffwiggler is like nothing else I've ever experienced on the internet. Not electro-music, not gearslutz.

I would be really interested to hear about the bad stuff you have experienced on muffs. :(

Sean.

i second that. muff's DIY section is one of the friendliest and most helpful places on the web. while not everybody there (including myself) is an expert, i've experienced very little to no trolling at all.

within 2 years i've learned tons about electronics and synthesis and built around 60 synth modules - without the help and knowlege of the DIY community on muff's this would have been impossible...

I think the more open the better,  better a few kids and know it alls that can be talked to than snobs who are just another engineer in the world and a puffed knucklehead who only talk to people they consider one of the few worthy.  Interestingly JH was not like that. Knowledge and criticism should be shared freely and unbiased and we should remind each other of that every day.

I think of the smartest kid in a high school who finds out on the first at college that they are no longer the smartest person in the room.
