Dual Concentric pots

Dual Concentric pots

2011-01-02 by Godric

In retrospect I suppose I should have asked around first and placed an order on a group-buy basis.

I'm only having 16 of the pots made and I am embarrassed to admit what they are costing me (not quite $25, but not much better).

The knobs I am getting will be Sifam knobs. I will try and choose the closest match to the knobs on the rest of the existing modular.

If people really are interested I could organise another batch to be made, the more people are interested the cheaper they will be I guess.

Wow,

I believe I got cheaper price quotes from State Electronics a few years ago and again more recently MegOhm in UK.

MegOhm pricing was around 4 pounds for a 50 piece quantity, although they offer a ten piece minimum at almost twice the price still not too bad by comparison. State on the other hand had a huge minimum $ amount but were serious mil-spec pots Made in USA. State quotes I'd need to dig a bit to find.

For knobs I am hoping to try out a scheme for boring-direct through cosmo knobs and installing a hollow shaft insert to grip the smaller inner 1/8th" shaft for the upper-inner control.

It occurs to me that they may not have started production of these pots yet (I placed the order at the end of December)

How many people would be interested in buying in to these. I could 'phone them tomorrow and find out where the next price break is - prolly 50+ so if 3 other people wanted a set of 16 - we'd be well over that.

I'd probably want to get at least one "16-pack" for a future sequencer build that I want to squeeze into a small space.  It'd have to go way below half of that $25 though, like less than $8 I think.  Is that even realistic?

Also...

1) Where do we get knobs for these things?

2) We have "dozen" for 12, "gross" for 144... It's the freaking 21st century and we do things in 8s and 16s now. We need a word for 16 of something.  Hexadozen?  Hexapack?  :-S

Hexzen?

I'm paying just under GBP £10 circa $15, including tax.

I have no idea what the next price break will be I'll enquire.
