layout for rotary switches

layout for rotary switches

2010-08-04 by Jim Coursey

Hi,

Is there a standard angle for each turn on rotary switch? Or do they generally vary?

Currently I'm talking about 3-4 turn switches, although I wonder if the angle changes at all with more turns. One that I have a datasheet for says it's turns are 30 degrees, but I don't know if this is at all a common stat.

Common rotary switches -- like the Lorlin (UK) -- come with 12 positions, so yes, the angle is 30 degrees.

I suppose there might be less-position switches, but I only use the 12-p ones for anything above 3 positions. For 3 positions, I just use regular on-off-on toggle switches.
