Who has built the Cyndustries Buchla Quad Lowpass Gates into a MOTM panel?

Who has built the Cyndustries Buchla Quad Lowpass Gates into a MOTM panel?

2003-11-22 by Richard Brewster

Hello folks,

I am going to build a Cyndustries Buchla Quad Lowpass Gate into MOTM
format. Cynthia sells the assembled PC board alone. I see some panels
for these in the Josue Arias Designs file folder and I'd like to hear
from anyone who has done this. In particular how did you mount the
board, hook up power, etc..

Thanks,

Richard Brewster

Hi Richard, I responded privately to your question about our panel
availability. But, I thought I would respond publicly to these
questions of general interest. You have seen our panel design. It
was done by Todd Faulkner when he rquested 2 of these panels.

I have indeed built one. The power is easy. It comes with a MOTM
style 0.156 power connector. Plug and play baby. :)

As you can imagine, I used one of my Stooge mouting brackets with
some trimming at the front to avoid LED interference. This is my 3
pot long Stooge bracket (does fit in dot com cases BTW).

Here is the photo of my completed QLPG from the rear. There is a LOT
of PCB to front panel wiring. A good portion of mine goes under the
PCB. Sorry for the photo quality, I don't have my regular camera
right now.

Hi Larry,

I`m waiting for your new one jack mounting brackets for my quad LPG and
other modules.

Do you have them in stock?

Thanks!

Josue.

Re: [motmpanels] Who has built the Cyndustries Buchla Quad Lowpass Gates into a MOTM panel?

2003-11-23 by Richard Brewster

Hey Larry,

Thanks much for the photo link. Very tidy wiring. I want a Stooge
panel like yours for my Low Pass Gates, and a 3-pot long Stooge bracket
would work for me too. I have cut several of them to fit my oddball
panel designs.

One question: Cynthia says it is customary to use Amber color LEDs in
the Low Pass Gates. Did you use Amber? If so, what Mouser part
number? Ok, that was a two-part question.

Heh, you think that's a lot of wiring. You should see my latest
FrankenModule in a custom Stooge panel: One MOTM-101 S&H with noise,
plus two Oakley S&H modules, all in the 2U space that the MOTM-101
originally occupied. The Oakley boards stack on top of each other
behind the MOTM board, all on a Stooge 4-pot long bracket. A 1/2" x
3/4" notch had to be cut out of the lower corner of the MOTM board to
allow a jack to fit where the MOTM slew pot used to be. The bracket was
cut out, too. Compared to this the Low Pass Gates looks like a piece
cake! There's an old Chinese proverb that says a synthesizer of a
thousand modules begins by stripping and tinning one wire. (Or
something like that.)
