Sign me up, I want 4! (I already have the 480s and the daughterboards - been waiting for you-know-who, but that's a dead horse...)

Hi all, Just seeing what level of interest there is in a 3U MOTM480 panel, like these: http://www.dragonflyalley.com/constructionMOTM480.htm http://pugix.com/synth/motm-480-3u-dual-filters/ I don't want to make too many. Or too few : ) Thanks! Scott Deyo contact@... The Bridechamber www.bridechamber.com Jealous Edison Record Kompany www.jealousedison.com ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Will and Bill always have something good to add. (I hadn't remembered
the Lamb Shanks with Scalloped Potatoes and Salad. Nice addition!)

Can we presume that the Bridechamber panel will have the Separate/Join
switch?

Richard

Mr. Brewster, Mr. James, Mr. Deyo, All -

Dad and I recently completely reviewed our 480 Page and made revisions that, while preserving the substance of the Join/Separate switch feature, present a more elegant implementation (or so we think).

We added pics of the lamb shanks dinner we made to fuel our review. The scalloped potatoes didn't really measure up to Grandma's, but they came close.

We haven't built the module yet and our 480 kit has been patiently waiting because we wanted to have the panel on hand before we did. Still, we think the switch idea is a worthy addition; at least for our own purposes and our design for its inclusion looks solid to us.

By way of comment, the switch is, again, technically not necessary. You could take the appropriate Output of Filter "A" and patch it into one of the Inputs of Filter "B" and get the same result. But the switch precludes the necessity for the patch and provides the "joined" 480 with four inputs. Kind of nice.

Look right to you?

Will

By the way, any advice on cutting the 4 traces on the MOTM board? I've never actually done this...what's the best way? Also just read that someone posted a comment on your build page, Richard, that they built it without cutting the traces...will that work?

Thanks!

I use a razor edge knife. Make two cuts 2-3 mm apart and then rip out
the piece of copper in between the two cuts.

When Will and I were making Scott Juskiw's mods to our 800s I used a dremmel tool to grind the away the trace. Scott's method sound more surgical - mine more like using a jack-hammer <g>.

See on this page about 1/3 of the way down:

Oh - Richard - how would the mods work without cutting the traces? Bill

I answered the comment. If you want to solder in only one end of the
resistor and run a wire from the other end, you don't need to cut
traces. That's not mechanically sound and risks breaking the resistor.
I solder in both ends of the resistor with a wire under one end on the
top of the board.

For trace cutting I use an Xacto knife mostly. A Dremel tool with a
small cutting tip works, too.

I heard from Richard and he said this would be done by leaving that end of each of those 4 resistors unconnected from the board, leaving it floating with the wire soldered to the floating end. He discouraged this because it isn't structurally as sound, but given I'm a little hesitant to permanently modify my board like this, especially since I'm nervous I might do it wrong or muck it up somehow, I might at least initially go this route.

website update

2010-03-22 by Scott Juskiw

I spent the day updating a number of projects on my website. Most of these are for my MUUB based utility modules. In some cases I simply added a Bridechamber panel to an already built module. For others I completely rebuilt the module using MUUB-3 boards in order to avoid stacking PCBs on top of each other. In some instances I created my own panels by making up a template with Front Panel Designer, printing it out, and then pasting it overtop of my plastic panel. Direct links for each of these can be found below.

I also posted some details about a mod for the MOTM-120 that I had done several years ago but forgot to add to my website. I had been discussing some oddball behaviour regarding the MOTM-120 with another list member and mentioned this simple mod not realizing that it wasn't commonly known (see #3 on this page):

http://www.tellun.com/motm/mods/motm120/motm120.html

Here are the updated MUUB utility links:

Dunsel (look for the Rev 2 build with nice Bridechamber panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln861/TLN-861.html

Lag Processor (nice Bridechamber panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln862/TLN-862.html

Max Min Generator (look for the Rev 2 build with home made panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln863/TLN-863.html

Switching Comparator (nice Bridechamber panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln864/TLN-864.html

Trigger Extractor & Window Comparator (home made panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln865/TLN-865.html

Gate Processor (look for the Rev 2 build with home made panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln866/TLN-866.html

Tuner & Headphone Monitor (home made panel):
http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/tln867/TLN-867.html

Next up I'll be building a couple of Klee sequencers with Bridechamber panel. So far only one simple modification is planned.

Happy synth building!
