Hole size standards
2002-10-19 by Richard Brewster
Since we started the standards, topic, how about
hole sizes?
On my custom panels I used 3/8 (0.3750)
inch holes for both the jacks and the pots, and 1/4 inch for the switches.
When I measured some MOTM panel jack and pot holes, they were a tad smaller than
3/8. I asked Larry Hendry about it and he said that MOTM does make those
holes 3/8 inch. And 1/4 inch for the switch holes. The
paint slightly reduces the measured size. You may notice when
installing a jack, that it is a tight fit.
The corner mounting holes are 3/16 inch
(0.1875).
The standard MOTM Lumex LED goes in a 5/16"
hole. For my MOTM-OMS-820 I decided to use regular LEDs, so I made the LED
holes 1/4" in size. Since we are going for MOTM standards, we might want
to agree on the Lumex part and hole size. Another approach would be to
make all LED holes 1/4" and let people who want to use the Lumex part just
drill them out.
Your thoughts? Opinions?
