Black finish scrws

Black finish scrws

2009-02-26 by dunna13

Does anyone know where to get black finish wood screws and/or machine
screws? I have built my first cabinet and designed my first front
panels (for MFOS modules) but I am stuck for fasteners. Beacuse of the
cabinet design I can use wood screws or machine screws.
Thanks, Al.

are you UK based (looks like it from the Tesco email address) ?

Screwfix
B&Q
Wickes even (though their selection is generally very poor)

i'd look at Screwfix

though if you have a Farnell or Rapid order to make, i'd check them out as well
also get some M4 fibre washers - will save the panels from rack burn

cheers

Hi Al,

The finish you want is called 'Black Japan', it's a hard finish that
doesn't come off when you use your screwdriver.

I bought some 'cheapies' to start with, for my Dotcom, and ended up
with shiny marks where the driver had been.

I got the Black Japan from Suffolk Fasteners ('cos they're local).

Don't know where you are, probably loads of other places do them but
you need to get the right finish.

Take care,

Clive.

synthesizers.com sells a box of 100 black wood screws that look great:

as far as machine screws, i dont know your specs, but bridechamber.com sells black machine screws (they are for mounting motm-format panels).

I bought a bag of 1000 screws years ago from:

http://www.aaronsmachinescrews.com/

These look identical to the screws supplied with MOTM modules, but are
shorter so that they work with flat rails mounted on a wood frame. The
blackness never wears off. The part I ordered is:

Item Name: Qty. 1000-#8-32 x 1/4 Machine Screws, Phillips, Pan, Steel,
Black, Full Thread

Just noticed that prices have doubled since I ordered mine. Shipping
may turn out to cost more than the screws themselves, depends on how
many you buy.

I thought the original poster was in Europe or something.

Anyway, while my local hardware store sells black machine screws,
there are few things in that department that you can't get from
McMaster-Carr.

That link is for entertainment purposes only, please double-check
specifications before actually buying parts.
