Opening FPD files

Opening FPD files

2009-02-18 by klostpret

Hi there!

I got FrontPanelDesigner working with Wine on Linux (as Schaeffer
suggests), and it works great when designing panels. But when I
download a panel design here, it won't open (FPD crashes).
Anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks!
Thomas Peter

the only thing i can think of is that your machine is doing a text
file translation during or after the download. is the file on your
disk exactly the same size as it is in the group's file section? if
there is *any* difference then most likely that's what's happening.

i'm not familiar with download translation options on Linux but your
browser may be configured to treat files with the .fpd extension as
text. some browsers will put a .txt on the end of a file whose
extension they don't recognise, also adding to the confusion.

I still have problems opening the files. The error when opening files is:
"Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 00456D29 in Modul 'FrontDesign.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000004."

Hope someone can help. Is it possible to convert FPD files to qcad files? Or HPGL?

That's the same error I get when I try to run FPD in crossover on my mac. I couldn't find a work around or anything. I use vmware fusion to run XP instead, it works great .

Got it to work! :-D
The solution is to check "Enable Virtual Desktop" in the Wine Configuration. I can open the file. Problem is that my keyboard doesn't work in that mode. But if the file is opened one time, it works without virtual desktop via the "recently opened files" menu.

My printer doesn't work in wine, that's the next thing I'll have to fix.
