BOM for BrideChamber Rotary Klee MOTM Panel

BOM for BrideChamber Rotary Klee MOTM Panel

2009-01-08 by Steve

Forgive me if any of this is redundant or already answered.

I'm looking to complete the front panel BOM for the Thomas White
Rotary Klee MOTM panel soon in production by BrideChamber.

After some quick emails with Thomas, I put together a PRELIMINARY BOM.

His rotary design and the BOM is in the KleeRotary folder I just
created here in the Files area.

There are a few parts that I need help on- namely some of the toggles,
and confirmation of whether the knobs should be the large MOTM size or
the small ones. They are highlighted in yellow.

I'm also going to probably substitute the $9 Lumex panel LEDs with a
$.09 LED panel mount and a T1 standard LED to save about $175 on the
build. Suggestions for proper T1 LEDs are welcome.

Thomas- if you see this and find any of this content objectionable let
me know and I'll remove it.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the BOM so that I
can complete it.

Thanks in advance,

Steve from Modularland.com

Hi Steve,

No worries on the content. The knobs you'll need are
the larger MOTM knobs and smaller ones for the inner
circle and corner pots. The center knob is a size up
from the MOTM standard knob.

I didn't know the Lumex LED's now cost $9! They were
only 2 each for the extra bright ones when I got them
I think.

Parts can be expensive, but don't skimp on your step
switch quality. You want these to last a while.
They'll take the brunt of the abuse when playing with
the module.

Great! Thanks for the effort, this will save me a lot of time.

Does the Klee have an inner circle of knobs? It appears on the FPD
that there is an outer circle of knobs, and inner circle are LEDs...

or am I misreading it? this is why I put the question out there.

The MFOS has two rings of knobs to be sure based on the photos...

Re: BOM for BrideChamber Rotary Klee MOTM Panel

2009-01-08 by sduck409

I think Thomas is confusing his rotary sequencer designs. There's no inner circle on the
klee, and no central "big knob". I just took a look at his design, and it appears to use the
smaller knobs exclusively.

The lumex leds that fit those size hole (5/16in) are part no. 67-1157-ND (yellow) from
digikey, 1.13$ each. They also come in green and red, and perhaps some other colors.

And Thomas is correct - don't scrimp on switches! They get a workout, especially the
pattern select switches. If you can afford the switches that motm uses, get those - the nkk
bat handle ones. When I was buying switches for the klee, I compromised and got the
nkk's with the cheaper handles, which saved me perhaps 50$ (its a lot of switches!), but i
miss the better feel of the bat handle ones.

Shameless self promotion - here's a video that features my klee (not TW's design) and
TW's rotary sequencer - http://www.vimeo.com/2702873

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the right Lumex LED? It looks
like the $9.00 price is for 10. I used the part number from the
posted BOM.

Digi-Key Part Number 67-1157-ND Price Break Unit Price Extended Price
1 1.13000 1.13
10 0.90000 9.00
50 0.78760 39.38
250 0.67500 168.75
1,000 0.58500 585.00

Quantity Available 1,810
Manufacturer Lumex Opto/Components Inc
Manufacturer Part Number SSI-LXH387YD
Description LED 4.9MM FLAT TOP YEL PANEL MNT

whew I knew something was wrong when I looked at...
I'm still perfecting the art of going quickly through these catalogs-
anyone have recommendations for part numbers for those best bat handle
switches?

Thanks in advance- when I get this BOM reliable I'll let everyone know

V1.1 is upRe: BOM for BrideChamber Rotary Klee MOTM Panel

2009-01-09 by Steve

Okay V1.1 prelim is up of the BOM- I just need some help on the proper
switches- the *good* bat handle ones- and verification of the 50K
Spectrol pot being the right one- and then it will be ready...

Thanks everyone so far!

V1.1 is upRe: BOM for BrideChamber Rotary Klee MOTM Panel

2009-01-09 by sduck409

The basic bat handle nkk switch is
mouser part # 633-M201202-RO
on page 1604 of the current catalog - it's figure C at the top of the page. That's what
you'll use for the pattern switches - the other ones are listed below that, but I don't
remember which ones exactly - you can figure it out I'm sure. I used the figure A ones,
saved a bunch of money.

The spectrol pots I used are mouser # 594-249-7503. Warning - they've gotten hideously
expensive, look for alternatives if possible. If you go the spectrol route, I highly advise pot
chiclets - John Lofflink sells them - google that - don't have the link handy.
