Tim's Good Idea

Tim's Good Idea

2008-07-03 by Scott Deyo

For all you one-off wanters, Tim Cooper had a good idea --
I can do silkscreened blank panels much more easily than silkscreened punched panels.
If any of you are really wanting one-off's and are willing to drill your own panels, that
would not be so hard.
The two things that slow me down -- having to do a new CAD, and waiting for my metal
guys.
: )
Either that, or pick a hole-punch pattern that I've already done. Then I can do your panel
when I do another run of that pattern.

Maybe I'll start uploading the silkscreens to the site for upcoming panels so it would be
easier to match hole patterns.

Cheers,
Scott

This sounds great. I've noticed that your price scheme for finished
panels is $20 for 1U plus $5 for every additional U. Any chance you
could lay out a pricing strategy for the one-offs, so we don't have to
ask every time?

Finally! I can do my 64x8 sequencer!

The strategy for one-offs is still in the air, because I don't know how much my
silkscreeners will charge extra for making just one screen. Also, unless you send me a
screen in Illustrator or something like that, I'll need to make a little money for diapers and
mortgage.

Estimation:
$10 per U, plus $5 per additional U, plus $60.

I still need to talk to the silkscreeners, because they did mention (IIRC, that was a couple
years ago) that they could print a one-off on just a copier or something. That might shave
$20 off.

I'll contact them Monday and try to figure out more.
Basically: Less than FPE, but you'll have to drill : )

Cheers,
Scott
